The
Building Industry
Construction
of homes and buildings is one mans oldest professions
after all when we stopped living in caves we have always
needed somewhere to keep us warm and dry. The building
business impacts on every area of our lives from where
we live, where we work and study to where we spend our
free time. In any city we are surrounded by buildings
on all sides from the old to the modern.
As the population grows there is increased demand for
new houses for people to live in, shops and offices
for them to work in and the associated infrastructure
that goes with these new buildings such as roads and
sewer networks. Large civic programs are often undertaken
as well such as the building of airports, sports stadia
and museums that improve the quality of life for all.
Existing buildings need to be maintained to keep them
in good condition. Projects of regeneration put new
life into run down city suburbs and help to improve
the quality of life for people in these areas.
There is a constant need for skilled professionals to
carry out this construction work such as skilled trades
people, architects, planners and surveyors. There are
also many other industries associated with the building
business such as quarries and mines to provide the necessary
raw materials, companies to make the various mechanical
tools, cranes, diggers and earth movers that are a vital
part of the modern construction industry.
Building and the construction industry provides employment
for hundreds of thousands of people and is a necessary
and vital part of the economy.
